Fons Janssen
Young Perspective Limburg (NL)
About me
Hello, my name is Fons Janssen, and I am 29 years old. I grew up in Veulen, a small village in the north of Limburg, Netherlands. My family has a farm with sheep, chickens, and a care facility for elderly people. In my family, volunteering and informal education are very important.
I went to a gymnasium in Deurne for my secondary education. Later, I studied biotechnology at Wageningen University. During my studies, I learned more about Europe through a Fulbright scholarship in the USA on environmental topics (2015). I also participated in the Climate KIC Master label program, which focused on clean technology and European entrepreneurship. In addition, I was active in student organizations and led discussions on the Dutch Climate Agreement and the European Green Deal.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I returned to Limburg. This helped me reconnect with my roots. My work at that time focused on organizing the Benelux community of the EUClimatePact, the social programme of the EUGreenDeal, and helping youth participation projects in Limburg.
Two years ago, I moved to Heerlen. Now, I work part-time as a civil servant, where I promote solar energy. With my self employed business, I also work as a project secretary for a coalition of Limburg youth organizations and researchers focused on health and well-being.
At the European level, I am involved in Europeers, the EUClimatePact, Education4Climate, and the EURuralPact. I look forward to exchanging ideas and learning more about your region.
