What do we mean when we talk about 3D annotation?
Keywords: annotations, standards, 3D, 2D, metadata
This session will be run by members of the TA1 team within NFDI4Culture. It proposes to discuss (and possibly collaboratively define) a common understanding of the term 'annotation', particularly in relation to 3D image files. What is included within this term? To what extent descriptive, technical and/or contextual metadata should be understood as annotation? How is annotation defined in standards already in use within the cultural field (e.g. W3C, IIIF, etc)? What is specific to annotating 3D images that has not been resolved by standards focusing on 2D images? Join some of us from the TA1 team to discuss these questions together. As a starting point to the discussion, we can look at a work-in-progress project from TIB's Open Science Lab which combines a knowledge graph database with a 3D image viewer with the aim to facilitate collaborative annotation of 3D images. (Note, this is proposed as an English language session.)
